Age UK Northumberland Enabling Connections Service

This project supports people aged 50 and over to increase their social activity, confidence, and community connections through time-limited, goal-oriented befriending support. Participants are matched with trained volunteers who provide regular encouragement, practical support, and companionship while working towards individually agreed goals. The project empowers people to build confidence, explore local opportunities, develop new interests, and establish sustainable social networks. By focusing on achievable outcomes and promoting independence, the service helps reduce loneliness, improve wellbeing, and enable participants to remain active, connected, and engaged within their communities beyond the befriending
