Karbon Homes Silver Talk Telephone Befriending Service for 50+
Silver Talk is a free telephone befriending service for the social wellbeing of over 50's. It gives people the opportunity to connect for regular weekly social telephone chats of around 30 minutes with a friendly, fully trained volunteer who is matched to them. Silver Talk aims to: Reduce social isolation & loneliness; Improve confidence; Help people feel better able to cope with everyday life; Link people to other services, information and support they can trust.

Please note our service is in high demand so unfortunately, we will not be able to accept every application. What Silver Talk isn't:
- Not a counselling service, but a weekly social chat with a volunteer companion. If people are about to or are receiving counselling, then we ask them to contact us when that is complete.
- Where people are bereaved, we reserve the right to wait for a period of time until we feel they are ready to build a social relationship in a weekly chat with a telephone friend.
- It’s not face to face befriending – if people require this, we refer to their local Social Prescriber.
- Dementia support – where people have advanced Dementia or Alzheimer’s, we may signpost them to the Alzheimer’s Society Companions Calls service or other support.

Who can use this service?
Anyone over the age of 50 in the Northumberland area.
Silver Talk is ideal for those who: Are experiencing social isolation or loneliness; Are able to communicate over the phone and happy to chat; Would like to form a relationship with a friend on the phone.
How are services delivered?
Office opening hours are Mon- Fri 9.00am – 4.30pm.
